Hip arthroplasty – orthopedic surgery of the 20th century.

The aim of the study was to determine the corre-lation between risk factors and diabetic retino-pathy, which is the leading cause of blindness indeveloped countries for patients aged 20 to 65.We compared risk factors between patients wi-thout retinopathy, with non-proliferate and withproliferate retinopathy (p< 0.05). Duration ofdiabetes is most important for the developmentof retinopathy. Hyperglycaemia and high bloodpressure are important for progression. Bettercontrol of blood sugar and elevated blood pressu-re can reduce progression of retinopathy and riskof vision loss.
